Medical Center Case Study:
Immediate Microbial Remediation, Stabilization, and Containment When a medical center experienced extensive water intrusion from a roof leaks, sanitizing equipment causing excess moisture and water damage, and air conditioning malfunctions, the resulting microbial growth posed a serious operational and patient-care concern. ServiceMaster by Glenn’s was engaged to perform a specialized mold remediation and rebuild under strict healthcare protocol and an accelerated timeline.
Due to the sensitive nature of the environment and the need to minimize disruption to patient care, our team was given just five days to complete the project. Technicians worked around the clock, beginning Friday evening and completing the work by Tuesday. Every phase of the project required precise coordination and collaboration across multiple trades, all while maintaining compliance with applicable industry standards and healthcare guidelines.

Immediate Stabilization & Containment
Our first priority was to prevent the spread of microbial contamination throughout the facility. This included:
Establishing controlled containment zones with 6-mil fire-retardant polyethylene sheeting, fully sealed from ceiling to floor
Deploying negative air machines with HEPA filtration to control airborne particulates and maintain clean air conditions
Implementing odor control and microbial reduction using EPA-registered sanitizers and antimicrobial agents
Creating effective barriers between active work zones and unaffected or occupied areas

Comprehensive Microbial Remediation
Once containment was secured, our team performed a thorough remediation of affected areas, including:
Detailed micro-cleaning and antimicrobial wipe-downs
Application of encapsulant coatings to seal remediated surfaces and inhibit future microbial growth
Isolation of all operating rooms to ensure sterile conditions were preserved throughout the project

HVAC System Cleaning, Evaluation & Repair
Given the role of the HVAC system in the incident, special attention was paid to air handling components:
Cleaned and sanitized HVAC systems serving non-sterile areas in accordance with the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) protocol
Inspected and repaired ductwork, replacing insulation where moisture intrusion was identified
Verified proper sealing and attachment of non-impacted duct insulation a tall supply diffusers, returns, and discharge points
Completed duct encapsulation where required

Demolition & Restoration
Following remediation, ServiceMaster by Glenn's completed all necessary reconstruction and finishes, including:
Removal and replacement of water-damaged drywall
Installation of AM-CLAD water-resistant ceiling tiles throughout
Painting of all walls and ceilings
Patching and painting 30 wallboard areas related to a prior re-pipe project
Repair of two exterior doors per CIH specifications
Removal of existing vinyl flooring in X-ray rooms and installation of antimicrobial welded rubber flooring
This project highlights our ability to respond quickly, operate within highly regulated environments, and deliver comprehensive remediation and restoration services—without compromising safety, compliance, or continuity of care.
